First, he was a lucky man to have a nice and smart girl, at least in the movie, to love and take care of him, never give up on him.
Second, a poor guy he truely was. He had a roommate to be around him whenever he needed him, a boss to keep him busy working at what he liked, and a little cute girl to relax and entertain him from hard work. These things, from which his entire life was made up, never died, never got old, and never existed.
He didn't lose any of the above in the end, and he got on well with each. This, was the luckiest thing of him.
